I used Dotclear during one year for a travel and photo blog, and I really love this blog CMS. It is simple, easy to use, efficient for what it does : managing a blog (the features needed are there and there are not useless features in the way). One of the things I really appreciate is its wiki-like syntax, for quick and easy posts entries. I feel uneasy with WYSIWYG interfaces, but writing directly in HTML is also painfully, so the wiki syntax is the good in-between. The dcFlickr plugin for easy insertion of Flickr photos in a post has been also of great help.

BTW, I'm French, then I cannot say how good is the English version, but it seems everything works quite smoothly and the documentation is in English too, so the fact that the software is French wouldn't be a problem.

@ Gerard Chaerles & Maurice : perhaps you should check the Dotclear documentation and English forums ?

Dotclear is really a good project. Simple to use, easy-tweakable, with standard functions that can be ajusted with all the plugins you can be looking for, to obtain really the blog and tools you want. It makes me a bit think of firefox and all it's plugins. The french community is active and sympathic. Many themes exist and themes are easy to do. Now I wanna convert my software downloads site to Dotclear.

The installation works well for me. Dotclear design is great.

Dotclear is really great, it is small and smart, esay to install and easy to admin. it is a French solution, but it is a French-only blogging solution. Quite the contrary: the whole engine is in English, with a mandatory French translation. So, basically, language is not a problem. I make the latest software comments, I recommend this software.

If you speak French, you will like dotclear. If you do not, don't bother. This package is solely aimed at french speakers (they say it is also for english speakers but trust me, if you are not a french speaker you WILL be confused). You have been warned.

I install Dotclear, the installation can work. The Problem Is :: After Logout, cannot Login. The message always appear 'Login failed. Please try again.'

This looks very nice but I fear that the lack of English support I will get lost. The demo works well and it seems very straighforward to use. Just wish there was English plugins page and English templates page, etc.

I found an even better Dotclear-on-OSX tutorial at Franck Paul's website, and it does a better job than my installation (especially with plugins). Here's the link (using Google's interpreter): (link too long! edit by admin)

I've put an English language tutorial for installing Dotclear in OSX on a free Dotclear site. Go to http://johannsen.mon-blog.org/index.php/2006/03/25/99887-tutorial-install-dotclear-locally-on-os-x.

Actually, dotclear has been around for a while and is very well-known from the french speaking community. I did not suggest this one to opensourcecms as I have never tested the english version (not sure the translation is really good), only the french one. Dotclear is user friendly (a bit less than Wordpress though), and has a large number of themes available, which makes it so attractive. But in my opinion, Wordpress is better, and I would stick with it.

I know its new, but it looks very good! Good blogging functions. And customising isnt that hard. To bad its most in french...
