I tried to install webcalendar on Mac OS 10.6.8 with server mysql open and php 5.3.4. I pasted the folder webcalendar in folder "sites" of "home". But when I try localhost/webcalendar/index.php I have the message : The requested URL /webcalendar.index.php was not found on this server.

simple to use and awesome learning tool. Not polished or shiny - but does the job brilliantly. Code is intuitive and easy to track.
On a side note,if you need to learn ldap use webcalendar's ldap integration.

I never tried google calender because i want an "inhouse" solution without hosting by another provider. Do you trust google?? ;-) So i see "need" of it!

Webcalender is an outstandig solution with a lot of config possibilities, so you need to spend time to figure out your needs.

Everybody's talking about Google's calendar offering. Boy, they are wrong. Google will have no liability whatsoever on calendar as it's provided for free. Their servers may - and already have - went down for an undetermined period of time and who is relying on them are doomed.

On the other end, and even though this is Free/Open Source, Webcalendar provides an outstanding functionality right out of the box. As a drawback we have the layout. It really needs a revamp as this one is quite bad. We can't have it all, right?

In a nutshell, thumbs up to Webcalendar. :)

Following on from martinsc's comment, there is no point using this *IF* you want to use Google's calendar offering. If you don't or if having an internally hosted calendar is a major requirement (as it is here) then you can't go far wrong with Webcalendar.

I've just tried webcalendar and I found it really a great tool. One important reason that it's still a great contribution even though google also released one, is because of its opensource codes nature so we can go on to modify or tailor make it. In addition, the new version 1.1 has some powerful new features.
