Here comes a rant...

Date Submitted: December 20 2004 02:06 am
I'm going to let off a little steam now... you can ignore this post if you wish. How hard is it to write understandable installation instructions? Some of these systems have the most awful instructions. I don't know how anyone (other than the authors) get some of these systems installed....

The Three Faces of

One of the Holy Grails of the entire computer industry (if not the whole world) is "Easy to Use." After all, the converse "Difficult to Use" is a selling point only to the most dedicated DOS and *nix users, who take that as a badge of pride. In the context of a CMS, "Easy...

Another Rant - This Time About Documentation

Sure, we're all impressed by clever code. Personally, I'm even more impressed when I can follow what the code is doing, and where I need to go to make changes. I've just spent four hours trying to change one link. Just to make sure you don't miss that - FOUR HOURS = ONE LINK. ...

GroupIT

Hear hear on the member access concept. None of the so-called Portals featured on this site are anything close to resembling an actual portal but are only just glorified weblogs; just weblogs with multiple sections and comments and that's supposedly a portal. Not. Ever used GroupIT? It is n...

I have been so busy the last couple of months that OpenSourceCMS has suffered, and for that I apologize. I am recruiting a couple of people to help out with the site and we are going to do a much better job at keeping all the installs up-to-date and we ARE going to add more demo's. Don't forget ...

We've added several new systems including DCP-Portal, PHPX, and vportal. We've also updated every system here. As this site grows it becomes quite an ordeal to keep everything constantly up-to-date. We do our best, but will try to do even better in the future. We hope to add more e-commerce and...

I live in the DC area and snow is almost up to my knees. That either makes me short, or that's a lot of snow. I was able to update all the systems that needed it and added a couple more. I added SPT which seems to be a pretty good system. Take a look. I also added xaraya which is from the g...

Someone in the forums told me about Mambo. I downloaded it, I installed it (easy install by the way), I became amazed. You will too. Try this CMS out. Between e107 and Mambo, the bar is being raised for what is considered cutting edge for open source content management systems. I fully intend ...

I know, I know... It's been quiet at OpenSourceCMS for over a week now. Since there seem to be so many sub-species of CMS, I've just shuffled the main links a bit to help you more quickly find exactly what you need. I hope it works! You'll find the more generallized, all-in-one systems in the CMS-Portals group, and the more specialized stuff further down. Of ...
