that is good, but the actual version is not really made for the people.Google Map key is not neceasry but the actual versio ask for it to give you errors and call for support, well maybe that can drive u to the comercial version. it s not open source at all. it s ok but is going to cash.

I tried 3 other scripts whcih did not work on wampserver until I finally found this, thanks to the developers. Open Classifieds worked on first install, setup was very simple just like setting up wordpress, and I managed to enter/save all settings. Will try later on shared hosting.

I just hope the developers will include a bug report in their contact form in case anyone finds one.

I am one of the main developers of the software. And I see many people has problems installing it.

I did more than 100 installations in different servers, and I need to say that just 5/6 had some kind of trouble setting up the files permissions or not proper mod rewrite activated, nothing else. 15K+ sites are currently using this software, so of course there's people having troubles in their own servers or local machines....

If you want always go to the official forum and drop us a line, Not in this page, since we don't read here.

Also any help would be appreciate it since it's a GPL script.

I've read all the nice things about Open Classifieds, and IF I EVER GET IT TO WORK, I will probably boast about it too.
I reached the point where the installation was completed in my "local host" page but then what? There could be more documentation.
I wasn't sure what I was suppose to upload to my website. So I UPLOADED everything - that is EVERY thing in the XAAMP folder......and IT STILL DOES NOT WORK.

I don't have a big budget but if anyone would lke to assist, I'd be glad to make a small donation to them or their favorite cause.

Spent all day trying to install OC.
Tried the numerous suggestions from other people all over the internet.
Most included editing htaccess.php in Admin. Tried them all.
Tried relocating in server.
Tried recreating MySQL databases (It never gets that far anyway).
Verified my server meets or exceeds your specs.
Had other co-workers try using a different server, browsers, FTP apps. They ALL experienced instant "500 Server Errors".

"And trust me just 3 persons paid to get installed because they didn't have any idea on how to install it (create a MySql server may be not that easy for everyone)"
My guess is that people...
1. Just gave up!
2. Hated getting the same reply here "It's your server settings."
3. Researched the internet, tried to ignore all of the issues (like mine, everyone seems to be getting nothing but "500 Server Error".) and no one here has a clue after everyone is getting the same error.
4. Spent all day trying to make it run.
5. Actually decided to give up.

I started at 9am local and ended at 11pm (2300).

You need a list of KNOWN GOOD server configurations. At least that way people have an idea if they may have problems or not, and stop telling people it is "free" and then have them spend all day trying to use it because there is no support unless you want to pay. Time and money - neither is free. You have the absolute worst customer service attitude!

please help! I installed openclassifieds on local computer, it works fine. But when I installed on server (linux, shared hosting, cpanel), it went all well in installation. When i checked "install sample data", it went fine. Later when finished, i opened site, and there is not category or sample data at all. when i try to add new category or list, nothing comes!
Please help me solve this problem. The database name, user name and password (user given all the privileges), still not working. I am really tried after installing it three times on server with my slow internet connection though.

I would really appreciate your help:

I have a similar experience to Anonymous (March 14 2011), I am quite experienced with php, the script installed beautifully but would not allow me to add an item (publish-a-new-ad.htm). It is probably a small thing, hope it gets fixed soon.

Well I can't get this to work at all, I'm a web designer and the program just won't work. Easy to install, looks good, but doesnt function.
Maybe Chemo should decide whether to offer this as paid software and make sure it works before releasing it, or keep it free and offer support on a forum for people.
At the moment there's no guarantee that it'll work once you've paid for support, so no-one's gonna pay up front for something that doesnt work to begin with.
Chemo, I'm not getting at you, I realise u work for free, and I admire that, but you can't say it's free and then charge people for your support. You gotta go either with 'free' and free support or 'paid' and free support.
The latest version does not function.

Let me start by saying that I own a small web design/hosting company and I didn't pay to have the software installed on my servers. In fact I offer free installation of the software for my customers. (I still charge for customizing it though).

Contrary to what others are saying, the folks at Open Classifieds are not forcing people to use their paid service. The paid service is if you can't install the software on your own.

I love this software, it's easy to install if you follow the step-by-step instructions in the installation script. If there is a warning in the script, fix it before going to the next step.

One important advice: You MUST install the software on a clean database to ensure that database structure matches the software or it will not work.

I installed software nut it does not allow me to login to admin. I think they are forcing folks to puirchase support. I believe in try before u buy.

Tried the installation with no luck. I had to go and change a lot of lines in the install.php for an undefined function before i get the installation steps screen.

After the installation is done, i get a blank blank . It seems you have to pay for an installation to get it working.

Good product but not really GPL. Because you say I cannot modify and remove copyright, your ad codes etc etc.

If you really need to release a paid version I think a better route for you is to release a Lite and Pro version where Lite is less features but no restrictions. Otherwise I dont see adoption going up.

my 2 cents.

the "blank page" problems seems to result from inappropriate database set up. i did have the same problem but then it turned out i was installing the software on some database that i had already created for other purposes. the install went fine, but since the database structure did not match the softwares required structure, it gave me that blank page issue. bottom line: create a whole new, empty database on your server before installing OC. PS: thanks for this great soft chema. keep up the good work!
