Nice CMS for medium webpages. Customers of the agency behind it (located in Berlin/Germany) get a very competend and good support. Prices for services are in a normal range.

I like this one, continuos development.
@Gerhard: the main target group are agencies, webdeveloper and similar, and those are building their own unique templates for their customers. Therefore it is understandable that there are not that much templates as with WP.

Sorry: but never again. Every seemed to be nice ... until you need support or a nearer documentation. Just a closed comunity (they do know why) with a very little group of users behind it. But for me it seems they are going to do their own thing. Every special item you have to ask for how it works or you have to do it on your own. If it is an agency as reported in former comments they don't hav a good service. (Maybe cause I am not a customer?) This works better for me: CMS Made Simple with a helpful comunity and fast and easy for little projects. (Sorry for this clear feedback. This 're only my two cents for it.)

Curious for a new smaller and more easy solution I tested this CMS. The presentation of the project looks very professional. Installation was on my own server. Unfotunately I have to report, that my rating is only one star. I missed a good documentation. And the service I asked for was not successful. Furthermore there are only few (and for me old looking) templates. I knew, that it is not the right way to compare a big CMS with a big comunity with a little one. But even I am looking for a little one which is less complicated this one for me is not an alternative to Wordpress I am using up to now.

Actually Lepton CMS is yet another fork of the great WebsiteBaker CMS.
It's lacking goodwill, a open discussion forum, it's project management is judgmental and very often they just will deny access to their forums to people they think come over to "spy" on them.
Very prejudiced, paranoic and almost akin to fascism (frankly spoken).

Don't waste your time with this bunch of dilettantes.

Unlike often reported here Lepton is still alive. Just now the Developer updated the CMS with a new Version [CMS-Update on 2013-03-18]. Contents are mainly bugfixes and some new functions for developers. Have a closer look and give this project a chance.

Nice Project. Try it out :-) I like to work with it. But indeed the last comments are right: Future of this project seems not to be clear. The Alpha a new Version was published in May last year ... without any more reponse ... Could be better service.

A private CMS of a little software-company in Berlin. Customers indeed get a really good high-level-support there. Big technical competence and strong on individual solutions. The general idea of the development was, to re-create an CMS to offer professionel modules for customers, which could not be offered in the context of the original CMS, where the CMS comes from. (Cause professionell advertising was not allowed there.) So the new CMS has not so many free modules for use but few very high quality addons for special solutions and professional use. A very good choice for a company, which is looking for a professional webpage for special solutions and a strong web-agency behind to create and support it for them.

As mentioned below indeed a little fork of another CMS. I tested both. Both are easy to use. There are only few differences in details so I cannot make out the clear advantages of this fork to the original. Maybe this will come with later versions. A closer look to the development of this one show, that the fork is a special adaption of a little private software agency in Berlin (Germany). Also there is a little forum it's not clear to me how the support will be when the agency change their preferences or without being a customer of this agency. So: good use (as the original), little support, unsure perspective.

After almost all developers have left the Lepton project recently, the future is not too clear to me. Hope the project will manage its first real challenge. Cheers!

A nice CMS which works for small and medium sites. Easy to use. Charming look.
On a closer look there are just two things to know for using it:

It's a fork from the CMS Websitebaker made by a German internet company who wanted to create their own CMS. Actual there are not many differences to the original. But the community is very small yet. So the development is based on a very small groups of guys... and depend on the activity of the company itself. Very risky in professional use (no chance to change, no alternatives, no security in duration of the project)

The CMS itself is free as some basic addons are free too. But on the page of the project is reportet, that better addons had to be sold. Seems, the fork was created from a open source project to sell addons (which is not possible in the original project).

Alternative open source possibilities are: Websitebaker (the original, bigger community, good documentation), CMS Made Simple (for small and medium sites too, bigger community, lower documentation), Wordpress (even when a easy blogging system should be used for creating a static site and not as simple in programming as the others named projects, very big community), xoops (bigger community, very good addons).

Pros:
- easy installation
- easy to use
- fast loading pages (google will like this!) I actually tested to run a test site with 1000 pages and no noticeable effect on speed.
- very good for small to medium size sites.

Cons:
- not much FREE templates. Having more template choices is a good way to attract more users I hope the developers can work on this. Create samples for 3-col template, fluid template, mobile template please.

After switching my CMS to this one from previous one that is listed on her by the way due to a Google attack page when visiting the projects home page, was looking for a solution quickly after trying several others, decided to give Lepton a go. Was very pleased that I was finally able to get contents published to my liking in a short period of time. Very hopeful to build a successful marketing system on this CMS just hope the community will stay strong and dependent to further this project.
