Zoph Description

Zoph Organizes PHotos, that really says it all. Zoph can help you to store, find back and show your photo collection. Zoph has an extensive list of features that will help you to do so.

photos

Import your photos into Zoph using the web interface or commandline access. Two sizes of thumbnails are automatically created during import. Zoph can automatically move the photo to a directory based on the EXIF date in the photo.

Zoph will automatically extract EXIF metadata from the photo to store data such as

date and time
width, height and size on disk
camera make
camera model,
flash used
focal length
exposure
aperture
ISO
Metering mode

Furthermore, you can give the photo a title and a description. You can store who took the photo and who is on the photo and where the photo was taken. Finally you can group the photo in albums and categories.

Once the photo has been stored in the database, you can determine who can see them and comments and ratings can be given by your audience.

albums

The first way to organize your photos in Zoph, is to place them in an album. Each photo can be placed in multiple albums and an album can be placed inside another album. I usually use this to group photos taken in one photoshoot or one holiday, for example.

The first way to organize your photos in Zoph, is to place them in an album. Each photo can be placed in multiple albums and an album can be placed inside another album. I usually use this to group photos taken in one photoshoot or one holiday, for example.

In the album overview, you can see the photos in a list, as a tree or as thumbnails.

You can assign a thumbnail to an album or you can have Zoph automatically assign a thumbnail to an album, using the 'Automatic thumbnail' feature.

You assign viewing rights on an album to a group of users. More on this at Permissions.

categories

The second way to organize your photos in Zoph is categories. I use this to describe what kind of photo it is ('portrait', 'panorama') or what is on the photo ('trees', 'water', 'buildings').

Like albums, you can add a photo to multiple categories. Just as albums, you can assign multiple categories to a photo and you can put categories inside another category, so you can create a hierarchical category tree. You can assign a thumbnail to a category or you can have Zoph choose one for you.

The main difference between albums and categories is, that you cannot give accessrights based on categories.

locations

The third way to organize your photos in Zoph is by recording where the photo was taken. You can do that in two ways: the first is to assign geographic coordinates to the photo and the second is to assign a photo to a place. Obviously, you can only assign a photo to one place, you can, however, assign a photo to a place and give coordinates. You could do so, for example, to give a 'rough', but easy searchable location, such as a city, and indicate the more precise location through coordinates.

Just as albums and categories, places can be placed inside another place, creating a hierarchical tree, so you could for example create a hierarchy Country > Province > City. The depth of the hierarchy is unlimited.

Zoph has support for mapping, this is done through Mapstraction, which allows you to choose between the maps provided by Google Maps, Yahoo Maps and Open Street Maps and even switch between them. Zoph does not currently support any of the other Mapping providers Mapstraction supports, but it should be easy to add if you'd like to (file a feature request if you want a specific mapping provider supported).
