SilverStripe Description

SilverStripe is a free and open source programming framework and content management system (CMS) for creating and maintaining websites. The CMS provides an intuitive web-based administration panel, allowing any person to maintain their website without knowledge of markup or programming languages.

SilverStripe contains a flexible MVC development framework known as Sapphire. Much like Ruby on Rails, but written in PHP5, it ensures developers are capable of extending and enhancing the functionality of the CMS and the website. SilverStripe provides developers with complete control of the generated markup; allowing for higher, semantic standards of XHTML. As a consequence, building websites using SilverStripe requires technical website development competence, and is thus aimed at providing efficiency and power to experienced website developers.

SilverStripe can run on Windows or Linux, with a choice of MySQL, Microsoft SQL, or PostgreSQL database.

SilverStripe is released under the terms of the BSD Licence. Documentation is available for CMS users and website developers. A 450 page technical reference book on SilverStripe is available in German, with an English edition coming by August 2009. An online demonstration of the CMS is available as a video and as an interactive demo.

3.0 is shaping up to be really good, I hear there is more good stuff in the works

Since release 2.4 SilverStripe is also my CMS of choice. The Framework behind it and intuitive UI are the best. Really hope that features announced for SilverStripe 3.0 will be implemented.

My CMS of choice, for all my projects.

I'm using SS for over a year now (coming from Joomla). I would never ever go back.
There my be other Systems out there which are more flexible, but I've not found one with such a nice UI. And it's very easy to start with...

Can't await SS 3.0.

Thanks to the SS-Devs, keep on rocking!

Since version 2.4, Silverstripe is my prefereed CMS for all my customer projects.

The underlying Sapphire framework makes it easy to integrate new features into the backend and to realize the customer ideas quite fast.

Keep up the good work guys.

I'm looking since long for a good solid and SIMPLE cms. I don't get why people like this system. A cms which has to load every time you go to another tab??

Also to UI is horrible. They did a much better job on their company front site.

I love Silverstripe, it's a good product for users and it's a good product for developers. Even the documentation is improving in leaps and bounds. I couldn't be happier with this CMS.

Silverstripe is a great CMS, specially because of the framework behind. I would say, one of the best opensource CMS out there. Sadly the user interface is old and ugly, really ugly.

The best.
Silverstripe become my choice after i tried all open source CMS.
It's not only a CMS but also a full featured MVC framework like CodeIgniter; this mean full customization capability. The template system is simple and powerful. PHP skills is needed for customization because everything is done with class coding, but it's worth.

Excellent OO PHP CMS with fantastic database integration, which makes agile development extremely easy.

The template makes the MVC framework easy to use and makes sure your code is in the correct place.

It has some excellent modules which are generally better written than other CMS's module (Wordpress I'm looking at you).

Community is getting better and better, plus lots of on-going development from core team.

Excellent choice.

The Silverstripe v2.4 series is a big step forward. The new features implemented (hierarchical URLs, $SiteConfig) and moreover the speed improvements are awesome. Recently switched most of my websites to Silverstripe.

So far, the best choice I found for a PHP developer. But if you want to change the font colors, go with FrontPage.

Just to clear it up: Silverstripe now has hierarchical URLs (since 2.4). It is at the moment the best combination of a very solid MVC-Framework in PHP and a user-friendly CMS. The creation of modules is just as easy as implementing a layout.

I give this CMS a 5 star rating. This one let's you develop each section of your site. My favorite components are the ModelAdmin and the DataObjectManager. These let you work with data like no other CMS out there, and what I do is help businesses with their online databases

Great Software clean and works easy. My version 2.3.7 is great

The real power of Silverstripe is what you can't see in the demo. The sapphire framework is faily well done so it is easy to build new functionality. I would not give this product a five stars as the code could be much tighter. The new version should bring new url and that's a good thing.
