XOOPS Description

XOOPS is a program that allows administrators to easily create dynamic websites with great content and many outstanding features. It is an ideal tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more.

XOOPS is an acronym of eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System. Though started as a portal system, XOOPS is in fact striving steadily on the track of Content Management System. It can serve as a web framework for use by small, medium and large sites.

A lite XOOPS can be used as a personal weblog or journal. For this purpose, you can do a standard install, and use its News module only. For a medium site, you can use modules like News, Forum, Download, Web Links etc to form a community to interact with your members and visitors. For a large site as an enterprise one, you can develop your own modules such as eShop, and use XOOP's uniform user management system to seamlessly integrate your modules with the whole system.

This CMS is good but not like Mambo. Mambo's functionality is superb and easy to understand. Can i get any new version of this

I really liked this CMS. I found the forums very helpful and the community very active. There is a good amount of modules and themes. Xoops is very easy to set up and even beginners can create a good website, However if you want a great website, it is definately helpful to know a little bit of coding.

I use XOOPS and have never had any trouble with it in all the 4 years I have been running it. The devs are great and are quick to fix issues.

I had tried some content management systems before I launched my website one year ago. Finally, I chose xoops. It is easy to setup and use. And, after one year running, I am 80% satisfied with it. If you have no coding experience, use xoops.

I posted the following on the Xoops.org forum and no one responded. The tons of threads on this same problem should be a red flag to anyone! They just don't have it together there. And if their PHP setup can't communicate with the database, there is really no need in using this socalled CMS! Here's what I posted, and it still remains unresolved. WHAT I'M USING: Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix) PHP version 4.3.10 MySQL version 4.0.25-standard cPanel Build 10.8.1-CURRENT 60 I run the installation, verify paths etc through the installer and everything is green light up until the

I am running XOOPS on several servers. XOOPS doesn't have such a great community and supper as Joomla! or Mambo have. XOOPS lacks in some applications like shop and Gallery, it doesn't have sef, etc... If you're unexperienced web developer - use XOOPS. More experienced users can use Joomla! - It's better for me, too.

I can honestly say after testing every CMS I could find for at least 2 months that Xoops is the best, not just good support, but if you know how to use it (which is easy to learn) then you can do anything with it - All I use now is Xoops, My second best rated would have to be CPG Dragonfly. It is not as flexible as Xoops, but better than Mambo for flexibility. If you want a out of the box website that you can EASILY customize (with themes, free on their website - hundreds to choose from), then Xoops is for you. If you want an awkward CMS then Mambo is for you. Unless you are a professional and have lots of time on your hands to customize a website, please do not even think about Mambo or Joomla, it may have a pro look to it, but you can get that with Xoops and it is easier to use Xoops. XOOPS IS THE BEST CMS THERE IS!!

I've used Xopps now for over a year on a daily bases and have an Xoops developer helping me. These are the issues with Xoops: A - Notification icons do not work much of the time. The New Post in a forum may have several untead post yet the icon does not reflect that there are new post. B - You can allocate for groups but not for individuals. If you want to create a MyAccount with billing information with PayPal for instance, you are out of luck. C - Anyone who says there is good support is not looking at the number of key questions left unanswered. Before you commit yourself to any software product, check out the user forum. On the other hand, Mambo has great user interaction and response. D - It is difficult to place a HTML page from your editor within Xoops without manipulating image reference tags I am using the 2.x and not 2.2 as the latest version is not stable. Now that I am more knowlegable about CMS and what I need, I am on the path of looking for another solution. The new emerging CMS is Flash CMS. These kinds of CMS use Action Script as it framework. The HTML based CMS are being replaced with media rich presentation servers. All with no need to program. I may start a CMS portal site so that others may see a check list and compare that list against CMS functions. This site would bbe created with movies and audio. If anyone is interested please indicate you would be interested. Check in at the e-Leaning site at http://eiproject.net/elearn_shw/html/ and leave a message that you are interested. This is a Xoops site with the ability to embed media objects. Again it fails to give me control to produce a MyAccout for any particular member Even if you have a small site, a MyAccount helps to personalize the experience for your member. Rick

If you want a CMS that has a lot of eye candy right out of the box, look somewhere else. That's not the focus of this CMS. XOOPS is more concerned with stability, security, and scalability. There are a lot of great free and paid designs for XOOPS, just like every other CMS. But what sets XOOPS apart from the pack is how easy it is to learn and customize. I've used most of the systems listed here. XOOPS was by far the easiest to learn.

If you don't want customize this software and don't care its GUI, it's you choice. Support is very good. But Software itself is junk.

If you are looking for a good and flexible CMS, Xoops is your Candidate. Xoops is extremely powerful, fast, easy to install and secure. There are lot of modules for this CMS out there. And it's pretty easy to write your own modules. It's being constantly developed and has a great community. Unfortunately Xoops doesn't have such a great theme library like Mambo but it's pretty easy to make a theme. Currently one of the BEST CMS out there. Just check it out...

I love Xoops. Easy for newbies with lots of themes and modules. Flexible enough for advanced users. Come to GearHeads for one example of what I've done with Xoops.
