XOOPS Description

XOOPS is a program that allows administrators to easily create dynamic websites with great content and many outstanding features. It is an ideal tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more.

XOOPS is an acronym of eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System. Though started as a portal system, XOOPS is in fact striving steadily on the track of Content Management System. It can serve as a web framework for use by small, medium and large sites.

A lite XOOPS can be used as a personal weblog or journal. For this purpose, you can do a standard install, and use its News module only. For a medium site, you can use modules like News, Forum, Download, Web Links etc to form a community to interact with your members and visitors. For a large site as an enterprise one, you can develop your own modules such as eShop, and use XOOP's uniform user management system to seamlessly integrate your modules with the whole system.

A useful and clever CMS but it has some issues. Module development and integration seems to be clunky and implementation varies from module to module. Admin system is also clunky. Otherwise quite a powerful system.

Easy to install, easy to configure CMS! Xoops official site is also helpful in providing solution for any problem encounter and downloading new themes and modules.

If you are looking for a Nuke-like portal site this is an excellent choice with better implementation (object-oriented and template driven) than the original Nuke, very active community with modules that seem too numerous and rapid and easy deployment. HOWEVER, I don't believe it is easy to break out of the Nuke-like left, right and center column look without messing with the core scripts which makes upgrading difficult. I do not like the DHTML admin interface at all. Too many clicks to get to where you want. Admin UI needs a lot of work. That said, this is a fast and light weight CMS with strict adherance to the idea that the core should be slick and minimal with additional modules adding features only when you need them (opposite of MyPHPNuke) which greatly minimizes bloat and makes it MUCH easier to go through the fewer scripts to learn the system. From what I gather the next step beyond XOOPS is one of the enterprise level CMSes like Mambo or Typo3 which I about to try. CMSes: PHP-Nuke, Postnuke, XOOPS, Zope +/- Plone

XOOPS has a hack to make it SEO at http://www.xoops.org/userinfo.php?uid=3853 That is the only reason I will try to install it...we'll see if it works.

A very good module based system. It has solid group-user system to match certain users with certain content. Also has a good templating system based on Smarty. Very easy to work with programming wise if you know PHP, since it has a very clean OO design. Nice, easy to use admin interface too. All around, a great system. Our company uses it with current clients.

This tool feels like JAPHPNC (Just Another PHPNuke Clone)... Nothing that terribly innovative.

This one is the most generic and Object Orientated of them all. If your looking for the most standard feeling CMS with the features you expect, go with this.
