Textpattern Description

Textpattern is an open source content management system unlike any other; it allows you to easily create, edit and publish content and make it beautiful in a professional, standards-compliant manner.

Is it for me?

Yes, if you appreciate wonderful web experiences, Textpattern is for you. Whether you create the experience yourself — with the extensive control Textpattern gives you over markup and styles — or have a designer help you, the end result will be the same: happily publishing content in a straight-forward, intuitive way, and with the satisfaction of knowing your system is sound and secure.

So it’s stable and secure, then?

Absolutely. The development team and community thoroughly test each release before it is made public. Be assured the software is robust, reliable, and mature.

Is it extensible?

Very much so. On its own, Textpattern is a well-hued and reliable machine, but the sky’s the limit. A multitude of plugins are available from our talented community that permit you to shape Textpattern to whatever need you have. Find the plugin you need, paste it into the admin area and activate it. Simple as that! No PHP or other programming knowledge required.

This is an amazing CMS. I noticed that the version here is outdated as I just downloaded a very much improved newer one. It's amazingly flexible!

Should this be moved the the CMS category here?

Help! Our website was created using text pattern but the designer has moved on. The site needs to be changed monthly and we're looking for someone who has used Text Pattern extensively and might be interested in working as needed, on a contract basis.

Please contact Katherine 415-706-2762

Using the Demo Main Page, I changed the title and added a pithy slogan, clicked save, and saw no changes to the page.

@Snip:

Just see "The txp:article":http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=article reference. Especially the sort parameter. You can use any field of the article table(in your db called "textpattern") to sort in any order or combination. E.g. to sort alphabetically, add @sort="Title Asc"@ to your article tag.

In a plain Textpattern installation all articles are top-level ones (assigned to a section an categories). To create more complex multi-page articles you can use the "Multidoc":http://ipsedixit.net/txp/24/multidoc plugin. The documentation is also the demo.

Is textpattern able to do a conventional hierarchical menu? It appears to be limited out of the box to a 'blog' method (newest additions at the top) with no apparent way of controlling what the menu looks like... makes it pretty useless for a standard website project, doesn't it?

Textpattern combines advanced functions with simplicity in a unparalleled way.

All you need is the tag reference in the Textpattern manual (known as the Textbook) and your good to go!

Highly recommended!

I'm a designer and Textpattern just let's me do exactly what I visualised without compromising on the functionality. Did you find a custom jQuery slider that you want to implement into the website? No, problem! You got it! It takes a while to get used to the tags and understand them but once you get it you don't want to get back into the WordPress custom query loop again. The more I understand WP, the more I appreciate working with Textpattern.
