I think that wordpress is, if not the best, one of the best stand alone blog systems and that's why i am using it to my site. First of all is stable, clear and very easy to customize it. Also it contains a easy editor, but if you don't like it you can use software like Windows Live Writer. About the plug-ins you can find whatever you want with a little search. Finally the community support is great and they don't leave even a small security issue by giving us many updates. If you want to start a blog in my opinion, wordpress is a great choice!

I have setup wordpress in 3 sites. Generally wordpress is an excellent personal blogging tool with many plugins and templates. The only shortcomings are (1) not able to setup for multi bloggers. That is each blogger has its own blog page. (2) frequent upgrade and not really backward compatibility to many plugins.

I have been looking (and still) for a good blog/cms and right now, wordpress is the best one. i like to make my own theme and add more options at the front page. U can make a simple to advanced website. it takes time to figure how the 'loops' work, but the codes are easy to find out there.

WordPress is indeed a highly flexible CMS that is suitable for people who don't need so much power but is very much easy to use. It's fully SEO ready, make pages, edit pages, and you can search and use the blog as a Latest News section.

If you host your own blog using wordpress then there are several advantages. Particularly if you plan on blogging for your business. On a self hosted blog like wordpress you are in complete control. Hosting your own means you will be responsible for installing the wordpress software installing a database of some sort keeping everything up to date and patched with current versions and all of that kind of thing. And all these things can be easily handled throught userfriendly administrator of wordpress. One can also edit and customize the blog by simply editing the php code of template and css. From SEO point of view wordpress is superb, My blog has got very high positions in google for certain keywords relevant to my site within a week of the launch of the site. This happened due to large number of plugins that are available on the wordpress official site. [wordpress.org]

I just started a blog Wordpress has been excellent so far. My favorite feature is how it handles themes. It gives you a full page of thumbnails that you simple click and your theme is running. To get beyond the basics you will need to learn a little CSS and basic HTML. Know a tiny bit about PHP helps but not absolutely needed. Without a doubt you need to enable the anti comment spam feature or it will eat your blog alive. Signing up for a key is easy enough.

Its a great tool, extremely easy to set-up and get going. Very easy to edit templates (php and css) on-line, but this can also screw things up. I do recommend it, but: Installing some plugins/modules require php edits Language support not 100%, lots of hard coded English even in the default template(!) No override system for templates. GREAT documentation.

Wordpress 2. suffers from the same problem as Drupal 5. As the core code changes there is a time lag of a couple of months before the themes and plug-ins are brought up to date. It has now been a few months since the release of 2.0 and there are still many plug-ins that don't work. The trial and error approach sucks. Get the code up to date or pass it on to somebody who cares!

Wordpress version 2.1 much faster than previous version. I like new tab in post input blog content, very easily switch between wysiwyg and code input. Many themes and plugins available for free. Very versatile cms.
