I'm a huge fan of NucleusCMS. The default skin might be as ugly as sin but there are some great themes for it and it is easy enough to theme yourself.

There are two very cool things about Nucleus that put it ahead: one, you can control the look and feel without having to hack the core files; and two, that the editor ("client" or "user") can add and edit items without having to go to the admin panel.

On the other hand, I wish it weren't so stubbornly blog-oriented. It's harder than it should to make static pages (like About or Contact), and to have a separate home page that isn't the usual list of blog entries does require some hacking.

Still, the support forum is good, with people who are knowledgeable and nice. I'm still looking for a less-bloggy CMS that isn't an elephant the size of Drupal or Joomla, but for blogging, I like Nucleus much, much better than WordPress.

If wordpress is like windows, then nucleus is like linux or bsd. :) Not everyone likes it.. but it's a very nice blogging software.

I'm waiting for the new version, because at the moment it doesn't even install on the newer mysql engine. Yes, there is a workaround but i'm too lazy for it.... -.-

looks ok for the starter sites. not very pretty though
Posted By: Brad M on March 19 2011 06:25 pm
I just read a comment where someone said Nucleus may be ok for small blogs but not for full blown websites, nothing could be further from the truth Nucleus exceels at full blown websites, whatever you want, however you want it, however much you need. There is a learning curve so maybe that is what makes people say things like that. If you can learn Nucleus will meet any need you have hands down. Try that with a wordpress theme.

it's a nice package bu - honestly - i cannot see any pros over wordpress which is a *huge* step ahead, really huge... thanks for your work anyway, but I think i'll stick with WP

My favorite blog software has been wordpress, which is excellent for BLOGING, but can be adapted for non-blogs. I briefly played with nucleus. I have been to Wordpress events, which have been huge, yet I have never heard of nucleus groups or events. I am curious as to why I rarely-to-ever actually see ANY websites using this. I see the voting and rating. Is it possible that Nucleus is more popular outside USA?

This got me up and running in setting up my blog at http://blog.bdsatish.in. Very much noob-friendly. I was able to create my own skins & templates within hours. I chose Nucleus over others because of its small installation size. A lot of functionality is packed in a small space. Can't help but thank the Nucleus guys ! I fell very happy about it.

Does nucleus allow multiple users, like on a family web page, so all family members can blog on the site?
Posted By: Buckwheat Handcock on November 20 2009 04:02 pm
Very slick looking software...
Posted By: damir on October 19 2009 01:08 am
This. is. awesome! It took about 30 mins to get up and running. Coming from Zero experience, There are a million useful plug-ins that are so simple to install. Countless skins and they're fully customisable. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR and get this!

I just wanted to comment on Harry's comment regarding moderation of comments within Nucleus. Wow, what a mouthful.

While the software does not come with this feature out of the box several plugins do exist that enable to moderate visitor comments.

I suggest individuals checkout the plugins section if they're looking for a specific feature. Just a heads up.
Posted By: Harry on November 7 2008 08:57 pm
I tried this CMS because it was rated so highly here but was disappointed to find that it lacks one of the most basic features a blogging software should have which is the ability to moderate comments!
Posted By: Janice on October 3 2008 04:47 pm
I chose this CMS over a few others I test drove several years ago for a couple of reasons. First, as a developer (but not a web-dev) I was impressed that way back then (2003?) the Nucleus team understood how to structure the plugin API's to include (get this ...) an uninstall function that cleaned up after the plugin. Really, compared to some others whose hoods I peeked under, this was very professional and forward thinking. Next, though, they had an attitude about users (not the installers but the users of the blogs) that I liked. At the time, I was creating a blog for my world-traveling daughter who would be using cyber cafes in all kinds of places. I wanted the panel she'd have to login to to post to automatically log itself out - in case she forgot or the power crashed, etc. At the time, another popular blogging sw group was posting in their forum that the 'user should remember to log out'. Not good enough for me. I've been a fan of Nucleus ever since. It's going to take something really awesome to get me to switch! Won't be anytime soon I don't think. Give it a try if you haven't decided on an app for your blogs yet. Documentation, plugins, skins, support forums - a great bunch of folks behind a great set of sw. (No, I don't work for them either :-P)

I stumbled upon Nucleus after experimenting with various other CMS's. Initially, I used phpWCMS which I liked but for a newbie to CMS's, it was hard to work around the difficult yet promising CMS. Nucleus allows me to set up static pages to look as if they weren't a blog item, yet maintain a regular blog. I've used this software now on 2 website (my personal and one for a non-profit). It is easy to use, Easy to customize the design and easy to install tons of add-on features. It comes as a really simple blogging software. It is the add-ons that allow for greater customization and features. The support forum are friendly and someone has always answered my 'stupid' questions. I will continue to choose this CMS over others! :-)

Nucleus is one of the ready-to-install blog software options offered by GoDaddy's Web hosting. I installed Nucleus using their default settings on my domain without major problems. However, when I attempted to move the root from www.mydomain.org/nucleus to blog.mydomain.org, the installation 'broke' despite my best efforts. I removed it and tried a couple of other CMS before settling on PHP-fusion. I did not try installing Nucleus from scratch on my GoDaddy hosting, so it may be very easy to set the root to something other than the default of 'Nucleus' if one starts from scratch on GoDaddy or another hosting provider.

Nucleus is Great...A powerful cms.. I use it for my personal web site and is very easy to work with it..
Posted By: Gnuig on March 1 2006 12:04 pm
Nucleus is by far the nicest CMS - with emphasis on weblogs - I have ever seen. Before this I have tried various PHP CMS systems, such as PHP-nuke, Mambo, and Postnuke, all pretty good. Yet, they seemed heavy and really unsuited for a simple weblog site, as I looked more into textpattern and Nucleus (see www.opensourcecms.org for more information). I really did like the simple textpattern weblog site, yet ran into various 'errors' and install problems, typical of other PHP based CMS'. Then I tried out Nucleus, and must say it was just what I had been looking for. Simple, yet very customizable, and retain a lot of the plugin/skins options from the likes of the more heavy CMS' mentioned above. Really nice! I hope it will prove to be stable and resonably secure, just as providing an easy way to keep a daily log of my projects. Regards, Gnuig - Copenhagen, Denmark

I love nucleus CMS. I am using version 3.22 and it works great. Its easy to install, very robust with lots of options and very customizable. The skins are very attractive and being created all the time. There are tons of plugins and tweaks you can do to get the look and functionality you want. The benefit of running your own blog server is that you control it, you back it up, you manage it. If some hosting provider's server crashes you don't have to worry about data loss or downtime due to shared bandwidth problems. I've tried many of the popular blog services both paid and free, hosted and downloadable. I've got to say that Nucleus has been the best in my opinion. Give it a try, you will love it!

For russian users there is a Russian Nucleus CMS support site - http://nucleus.com.ru

Nucleus is the very best for a robust and personalized CMS. I choosed Nucleus for my big website after a month of trying some other twelve different CMS's among them Mambo, Nuke and many 'famous' others. I'ts definitively the best.

The only one I tried (also tried WP and TP) which got up and running with NO issues whatsoever on my Windows box running IIS. Looks easy to use, I look forward to digging further into it.

I like Nucleus CMS as it offers a lot of options, yet is configurable enough that you can take out any of the options that are not needed for your website. Sometimes all of the features are overkill and Nucleus allows you to keep it simple when you need to.

This is the best one among our customers. They like it very much. Thanks.

Nucleus is my favorite blog system. and nucleus has so many plugins that sometimes it can be used as a cms.
Posted By: Veloxi on September 11 2005 08:49 am
I needed a simple, yet powerful piece of blogging software to use for my new website. I tried severa scripts, such as Wordpress, but decided to go with Nucelus because of its power, simplicity, and ease of use. Even the bookmarklet it insanely powerful. This is an amazing script that I'll happily donate a few dollars to, as it's very well done.

Nucleus CMS is just awesome. Very easy to work with. The install is a breeze, best I've ever seen in a php application. It's easy to set up your skin and settings, add plugins, and understand the code. It's also very easy to add more blogs or install it on subdomains. Also very important is the XHTML and CSS validation; the markup for Nucleus is completely standards-compliant. I use Nucleus to keep a journal of the updates I make to my website, and then I use CaRP (http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/) to take the RSS feed from Nucleus and display it on my webpage. Everything works really well, and this is important, since some php applications just don't work on my hosting provider (Bravenet). Bottom line: It's great!

Nucleus is very compact and robust blog solution. I like plugin system very much. It's very easy for average php programmer to make extensions. Only thing I don't like is admin panel design. It's not very intuitive.
Posted By: anand on July 13 2005 11:01 am
What sets nucleus apart is its powerful plugin system. Developers will appreciate the extremely well thought out API. Users will appreciate the wide array of plugins available. Give it a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Posted By: MrTorrance on June 10 2005 09:41 am
Nucleus is simply awesome. Out of the box it's a fairly limited program, but due to the many (easily installed and removed) plugins it makes for a very customizable and robust blog/CMS tool. -Negative...was a bit of a learning curve using the template and skin system, but it proved to be worth the effort.

I've got Nucleus CMS installed at my site, and it seems great. It's lightweight, yet has plenty of plugins for all the functionality you might need. I'd prescribe B2Evo if your new to blogging, but Nucleus if you know exactly what you want in a blog.
Posted By: Dan Jeppson on April 1 2005 05:57 am
fantastic blog system. I have tested alot of CMS systems, but this one is very good and easy to change (cool templates ect..). Check my test site.. Cheers from Greenland

There is a cache plugin if you want to serve static pages.
Posted By: gnome de plum on March 13 2005 07:53 am
Does anyone know if the fact that the nucleus CMS doesn't generate static pages (it creates them on the fly) causes server issues on larger, busier sites - sites with say 3000 visitors a day?
Posted By: Aaron Witton on March 7 2005 04:28 am
Nucleus 3.2 has just been released. There have been numerous enhancements and fixes over the old 3.15. With Nucleus CMS 3.2, you now have an option to use Captchas to enhance the protection from comment spam. It also includes a nifty-looking 100% standards compliant skin (thanks to Stanch). Go get it! It's really good..
Posted By: Ivan on February 25 2005 08:43 am
Probably one of the better blogging tools out there, if not the best. ;) Think of one plugin they don't have, and one of their dedicated developers will write for you (within reason). ;) Superb templating/skinning system too! Check it out! O yea, and new release coming soon so stay tuned.

In use Nucleus quite some time already and I installed it at many websites, for myself or for friends. And I must say this system gave me something to learn and understand, but after telling the difference between skin and template, I am absolutely happy with Nucleus. I gave BLOG:CMS a try, but Nucleus for me is more stable and satisfying if you want to have system which offers a lot and which has a strong support community where you really get a lot of help, try this out
Posted By: HC on January 8 2005 10:01 am
I really like this package, especially the ease with which you can upgrade to new releases.
