Moodle Description

Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 40,000-student University.

Since I last posted in 2007, Moodle has gone from 180 third party plugins to over 700. This is a wonderful, massive extension of the basic tools. But they come with various levels of quality and compatibility to the latest version of Moodle. Give yourself time to explore all the options you have and see if they work well. I use keytoschool.com as a free hosting service and sandbox to test out Moodle. As I write this, Moodle 2.0 release candidate 1 is coming out. It won't solve all the beauty issues of Moodle, but it gives a huge core change that makes multi-media resources easier and more stable. Maybe themes will be more creative too.

Moodle: good, but ugly. Functionally seen probably one or the best, but for aesthetic reasons I would never use, but I must.
It is like a car, you dont like, but you need for transportation. You quit as soon als possible.
Its a pity:
Learning should not be a duty, even sex, as a duty, becomes ugly and boring.
One should like to work with moodle, besides content, like you drive a beautiful bicycle on a sunny day.
Moodle is rain every day.

Hi there, I am using moodle since version 1.3.
On the up side, I have to say that it is stable, fast and can accommodate large projects with companies and universities.

On the down side:
- the design of the application is rigid, and it is very difficult to use it in original and creative ways. Moodle websites have all the same look and feel, and at the end they all boil down to a hierarchical collection of courses and/or forums
- it is lacking some basic modules, such as an ecommerce module for selling courses over the internet.
- it is completely lacking SEO optimization.

My understanding: if you are nonprofit or university, go for it, especially if you are going to create tutored online courses.
If you need advanced theme'ing capabilities, or to do some real world online marketing, or if you need to sell courses over the Internet then my suggestion is that you evaluate some different solutions before jumping on Moodle.

Regards

Moodle has over 180 modules and plugins available to customize an e-learning environment. Many of these are third-party modules contributed by teachers who are encouraged to build activities that fit their style and subject of teaching. It is also highly scalable, fit for a one teacher school or the 100,000 student Open University UK.

I started with making my own Learning Management System initially and then came across two of the Learning Manegement Systems while browsing; Atutor and Moodle. I started with Atutor, not very Impressed as I myself made several things already in my own system. Then I switched to Moodle and I was dismayed. Well, to tell myself that why the heck am I developing my own system !!! It is a perfect system, everything integrated properly and up to the mark. Completely intergrated block and code chunks. Check out my site and you know it on your own !
