Textpattern Description

Textpattern is an open source content management system unlike any other; it allows you to easily create, edit and publish content and make it beautiful in a professional, standards-compliant manner.

Is it for me?

Yes, if you appreciate wonderful web experiences, Textpattern is for you. Whether you create the experience yourself — with the extensive control Textpattern gives you over markup and styles — or have a designer help you, the end result will be the same: happily publishing content in a straight-forward, intuitive way, and with the satisfaction of knowing your system is sound and secure.

So it’s stable and secure, then?

Absolutely. The development team and community thoroughly test each release before it is made public. Be assured the software is robust, reliable, and mature.

Is it extensible?

Very much so. On its own, Textpattern is a well-hued and reliable machine, but the sky’s the limit. A multitude of plugins are available from our talented community that permit you to shape Textpattern to whatever need you have. Find the plugin you need, paste it into the admin area and activate it. Simple as that! No PHP or other programming knowledge required.

coming purely from a css/xhtml background, using textpattern as my choice of cms was a godsend. everything is very intuitive once you get the hang of things. perfect for small portfolio/medium corporate/large government sites (many examples of these can be found all over the place). the core is stable and extremely fast, while several useful plugins can be found and instigated. as for weblog functions like trackback/ping/commenting crap i cant say much about them since i dont know and have no interest in blogs in general.

I've been building Textpattern based sites for about three years. It's become the CMS of choice for most projects in my studio due to it's elegance, flexibility and ease-of-use. Textpattern allows me complete control over all the mark-up I use, great if you develop web standards based sites like we do. The human readable, XML style, tags make dynamic functionality very easy for a designer like me. The vast array of plugins and excellent community have always made my Textpattern based sites the most fun and satisfying to work on. There is a bit of a learning curb as with all CMS but the community forums have offered better support than a commercial CMS we also use. The book 'Textpattern Solutions' should help anyone wishing to learn how to use Textpattern.

Along with Nucleus Textpattern is one of the best blogging systems available. Very simple and clean. The install was also a piece of cake (assuming you are familar with mysql) also third party SEF addons available to make it super SEO. Recommended.

Textpattern is more than a blogging tool.

Far more than just a blogging tool. A very versatile CMS with a fantastic community ready and willing to help. Used by some of the best designers around. Can't recommend it more

This is the first CMS that is fully database driven. Everything is done through the database from style sheets, templates even URL-Rewriting. It is difficult to use at first though, but you will be rewarded once you put the time and effort. You will never need another CMS again.

Text pattern is a designer's dream with clean code and stripped-down simplicity. Others have mentioned a learning curve which I did not find to be an issue at all with this software. If you know basic HTML and CSS, you can easily mold Textpattern to get it to look the way you want without wrestling with overly-designed templates and messy code. If you know a little PHP, you can do even more. I have used Wordpress for similar tasks and was able to complete an assignment using Textpattern in about half the time. It is great to know that you can implement this CMS into a mockup or existing site design with minimal effort. I have found full CMS solutions such as Mambo/ Joomla to be overkill for many of the features my clients needed. The very simple back end of Textpattern does not intimidate my clients like the more robust CMS's. It is basically a wireframe model that is designed for unlimited customization and add-ons.

A great system! The learning curve is steeper than other blogging tools but it does provide a higher level of flexibility that I am not sure it should still be classified as a blogging soft. Anyway, I am planning to spend more time on it.

Textpattern shouldn't be classified as Blog software: while it can be used to power a minimal blog of sorts, it is a general cms, and does not contain various blog-specific features. I would guess it's closest category would be 'Miscellaneous'.

Great system for managing 'micro content' or content chunks to dynamically assemble pages with broad support for plugins, solving just about every need. Not to be unerestimated as 'just another blog tool'.

I've used this CMS for a couple of clients now and really appreciate the simplicity of it. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it can be a very rewarding one. The separation between content and design is really cool. It's made me reconsider my design processes. Simple backend for clients too, which they appreciate, plus a ton of languages are supported.

Txp has a plugin for the contact us section http://thebombsite.com/txpplugins/408/zem-contact-reborn absolutely flawless and the other plugins like the newsletter and email on post are also amazing ...

This was already my favorite CMS, but as of version 4 this is a really robust system. I won't say it's ready for enterprise yet, but that is not its target market anyway. For those new to TXP, it's custom xml-ish tag-based template system takes a little getting used to, but it definitely rocks hardcore.

A great CMS. Which is what I consider it. Its designed for much more than a blog. Perhaps the best thing about TXP is its implementation of TAGS (See here: http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Alphabetical_Tag_Listing) These tags works almost like an expression system to easily add functionality throughout your website. You can do some amazing things by combinging certain tag structures. The only thing missing is an ecommerce intergration of some sort.
